Red-Hot West Grantham Blaze Past Charles Read in the Cold
West Grantham’s Year 8 boys’ football team braved freezing conditions on Monday evening as they travelled to Charles Read and produced a red-hot display to seal an emphatic victory.
The opening ten minutes were evenly contested, with both sides settling into the game before it burst into life. West Grantham struck first through a composed Leo Gunn finish, only for the hosts to hit back swiftly with an equaliser.
The visitors soon regained control, however. Oscar Briggs found space down the left-hand side and fired a low shot into the bottom corner to restore the lead, before Jaden Aust added a third just before the break, a goal that underlined West Grantham’s dominance throughout the first half.
The second period began more evenly, with Nikodem Wasowski pulling off an excellent save to tip a goal-bound effort onto the crossbar. That proved a turning point, as West Grantham quickly regained their rhythm. Further goals from Briggs and Aust, the latter dispatching a coolly taken penalty, sealed a commanding 5–1 win.
Final Score: Charles Read 1 – 5 WGSA
It was a superb team effort, capped by star man Abdul Abker, who delivered an outstanding performance from start to finish.
