Year 10 v Charles Read Academy (1-1)
The first fixture of the season to be played on home turf saw the spoils shared and both teams walk away with their heads rightly held high. It was proved to be a well fought and exhilarating game of football. WGSA started brightly and from the off took the game to their opponents and for a team thrown together without having played competitively as a group before, you’d have thought they would take time to gel but it was in fact it was quite the opposite. Flowing football, intricate passing moves and individual brilliance was on display and in a tight game where play ebbed and flowed throughout, Harrison Unsworth’s individual virtuoso goal proved enough secure an undefeated start to the season for year 10.
Year 9 v Charles Read Academy (1-6)
The second meeting of the season for these two sides saw a reversal of fortunes that saw WGSA come out second best on this occasion. From the off Charles Read proved to be the stronger side pushing forward in wave after wave of attack, WGSA stood strong for some time but eventually their defences were breached and for the remainder of the first half the flood gates were open. In the second half however, WGSA managed to steady the ship, score a goal of their own and finish the game with the upper hand and plenty to build upon moving forward into their next fixture.
