What will we learn in Food Technology at WGSA?

In our Food Technology course, students are provided with the knowledge and understanding related to a range of hospitality and catering providers; how they operate and what they need to consider to be successful. There is the opportunity to learn about issues related to nutrition and food safety and how they affect successful hospitality and catering operations. Learners will also have the opportunity to develop their food preparation and cooking skills as well as transferable skills of problem solving, organisation and time management, planning and communication.

At Key Stage 4 we are currently following WJEC LEVEL 1 / 2 AWARD in HOSPITALITY AND CATERING.

How do we encourage students to succeed in Food Technology at WGSA?

Students are encouraged to be successful by learning various key skills such as weighing and measuring, using equipment safely and hygienically, cooking a range of snacks, main meals, desserts, using a range of different ingredients and a variety of methods of cooking.

How do Food Technology lessons at WGSA help students to prepare for the world of work?

Through a variety of academic and practical means, students will be given the ability to use their learning and subsequent qualification as the starting point for further education and/or the first steps into a career in the hospitality and catering industry.

Possible career opportunities include areas such as hospitality catering establishments, food manufacture and product development, buying, retail, environmental health, food science, marketing, teaching, dietary advisor, and food microbiology.
