A combined team of year 8 and 9 boys played against Charles Read Academy on Wednesday 12 February, and they put in a performance they can be really proud of.

The match was very much a game of two halves, with Charles Read stretching out to a 5-0 lead by half time. However, this did not reflect the true nature of the contest with West Grantham holding their own for long periods of the game, and indeed threatening the Charles Read goal on numerous occasions.

The second half was a different story with West Grantham having the lion’s share of possession as they grew into the game and peppered the opposition goal with shot after shot. Macorly Dixon eventually broke the seal for West Grantham with a well taken finish from the left-hand side of the box, placing his shot across the keeper and into the far corner.

Try as they might, and despite their dominance throughout the second half, West Grantham could not build on their momentum and succumbed to a breakaway goal from Charles Read to restore their 5 goal cushion. The game ended 6 – 1 to Charles Read Academy and with plenty of promise for future fixtures.

Well done to the West Grantham team!
