In their practical lesson today, year 9 students have made ‘Mac and Cheese’.  The students have been studying gelatinisation and today saw it in action whilst thickening their sauces.

They melted butter and combined it with flour to make a roux, adding milk and cheese to make a thick sauce for their ‘Mac and Cheeese’.

Students were keen to try their food at lunch time, and discussed ingredients that they could add to the basic recipe to add more flavour.

Their next practical lesson will see them baking scones.
