The Academy Library has a collection of over 5,000 books covering genres from horror to romance and everything in between. We also have a growing collection of non-fiction books to help support students in their studies.

Students are welcome to visit the library for advice and research purposes, silent reading, homework catch-up and to take reading tests related to their progress in literacy. We host regular library events, such as chess and quizzes, as well as specialised library lessons and reading clubs.

The library is a vibrant, welcoming and peaceful place we hope our students will enjoy using for years to come. Miss Mackintosh, the academy librarian, is available daily to provide advice and guidance.

Read to your little brother or sister!

We now have a new selection of illustrated story books that our students can borrow so that they can read to their little brother or sister at home. We like to encourage family reading where we can!

Library refurbishment

Our school library has been redecorated, making it easier for students to find books they are interested in, our genre sections include fantasy fiction, action and adventure, romance, crime, horror and comedy – they provide our students with reading age-appropriate books for all interest areas.  Our comfortable seating gives our students a space to relax and enjoy our library activities. Extended library opening times and Year 10 and 11 Study Centre

The library provides a supervised space for our students to spend time after school, until 4.00pm on Monday-Thursday and until 3:30pm on Fridays. This time is to be used for independent reading, revision and research. Our new KS4 Study Centre will support our year 10 and 11 students with their studies.

Reading Journeys

We offer students tailored reading recommendations at each stage of their education, guiding them towards key texts which will support not only their wider education but also their social awareness. We also encourage students to aspire to read sixteen key texts by the time they leave us, ensuring a complete and enriching reading experience.
